2019 Audi A5 vs. 2019 Nissan GT-R

If you are on the lookout for a luxury coupe, the 2019 Audi A5 is one that you definitely should never miss out. It has a good balance of having superb features wrapped in an extravagant package.

The 2019 Nissan GT-R, or Godzilla as its fans fondly call it, is a supercar from Nissan. It is a high-performing vehicle that has the 1969 Skyline GT-R as its forefather. Of course, the GT-R has seen plenty of tweaking though the years. This 2019 version is challenging other range-topping cars from power brands, including the all-new A5.

Design & Style

The A5 is stylish, modern and is one of the best-shaped vehicles of the brand. There are subtle bulges above the 19-inch wheels, black-painted exterior trim and sharp creases across its body. Although the design changes are sophisticated, they remain conservative.

As for the GT-R, its style is based on the classic coupe look but with the addition of new grille and LED lights to make it look current. It looks classic and unique but not as exciting as the A5.

Technology & Safety

There are plenty of infotainment features on the A5 that comes standard across all trims. The floating display can either be the standard 7.0-inch or the optional 8.3-inch. Aside from the usual Bluetooth and USB connectivity, it also features both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audi is known to be attentive towards safety and the Audi does not disappoint. It has automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and adaptive cruise control as standard active safety features.

Although the tech features of the GT-R are not as fancy as that of the A5, it does have a decent infotainment system with an 8.0-inch display and Apple Car Play. Driver-assistance features are not as advanced too.

The A5 scores above average for its drivability. Across all three trims of the A5 is a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine under the hood. The 248 hp and 273 lb-ft of torque plus the available adaptive suspension delivers a smooth and comfortable ride.

The GT-R is a high-performance vehicle and it is obvious with its 565 hp V6 engine. It is a blast to ride with its immediate body responses. Its power is a double-edged sword as it is quick to jump into the highest gear. The car tends to lurch as the powertrain engages and disengages suddenly.

The Bottom Line

There is no doubt about the power of the 2019 Nissan GT-R. Its performance, however, is not appealing for everyday driving and the design is also not as pleasing. This is where the A5 appears superior compared to the GT-R. Its performance is enough to impress and it has an appeal that looks contemporary. These factors make the 2019 Audi A5 alluring to most people.
