2017 Audi Q3 vs. 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2017 Audi Q3 are SUV crossovers that have garnered a lot of attention in the automotive world, owing to their excellent performance as well as their amenities and technology. Plenty of people might have a hard time choosing between the two, but there are many reasons why you would be better off buying the 2017 Audi Q3 as opposed to the Volkswagen Tiguan.

Design & Style

Both vehicles are crossover SUVs with a seating capacity of 5 passengers. The current iteration of the Volkswagen Tiguan is bigger and more expensive than its predecessor. The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan has a boxy and muscular look, and when viewed in some angles it does seem like a smaller version of the Touareg. The Audi has similarly received styling upgrades. It has a brawny stance, and looks exceptionally proportional compared to the 2017 Volkswagen Touareg. It is also more attractive compared to the Volkswagen.

The Tiguan's interior is spacious and has 520 liters of space. The rear and second row seats can also be folded to increase storage space. Flip-up tables, four-way climate control and multiple cubby holes for storage are also present. The 2017 Audi Q3 does not compromise with interior detailing and finishing, making it a better place to be in compared to the Volkswagen. The Audi's driving position is excellent, and all the materials used have a premium look and feel.

Technology & Safety

Both vehicles have an impressive array of technology and safety features. The Volkswagen Tiguan has several modes of connectivity to other devices including USB and Bluetooth. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are new features present for the first time in the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan. Other standard features include a digital instrument cluster, satellite navigation and seven airbags. Safety is provided thanks to semi-automated parking, a driver fatigue monitor and tire pressure monitoring.

Most of these features are also present in the 2017 Audi Q3, with the addition of excellent crash ratings, blind spot monitors, a rearview camera, parking sensors and frontal crash prevention systems.

Performance-wise, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with a 2.0 liter inline 4 turbo petrol engine, which generates 132kw of power. It also generates an impressive 320Nm of torque from 1500 to 4000 rpm.  The engine is mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

The 2017 Audi Q3 is available with a choice of four engines, including a 1.4 liter and 2.0-liter petrol as well as two 2.0-liter diesel engines. This can be mated to a six-speed manual or seven speed automatic transmission. As is evident, the Audi has more powertrain variants, making it easy for prospective buyers to find exactly what they need. All Q3s have excellent acceleration and nimble handling, as well as a smooth ride thanks to four-wheel independent suspension as well as a front and rear stabilizer bar.

The Bottom Line

The 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan is undoubtedly an excellent car, but the 2017 Audi Q3 is clearly miles ahead in terms of luxury, quality and performance. It is therefore the sensible choice between the two.
